We love the friendly and efficient staff at the Alexandria Animal Hospital. Although we live in the District,
we've been taking our dog here for routine care ever since we adopted him from the Alexandria shelter (they provide vet services to the shelter).

Open 24 hours a day, everyday, this veterinary hospital is a true life-saver. I first went here on a Christmas Eve night, when my brother was visiting
and his very young curly-coat retriever's mouth began to swell. He would have not made it without the excellent care he received here. They brought the swelling down
and diagnosed his fairly rare condition. It is very convenient for those living in NW DC although it can be pricey. Years later, I brought my own dog (a springer spaniel) there for digestive problems.
Great for emergencies, but expensive for routine care.

An excellent facility for rehabilitation and adoption, WARL has the most amazingly designed animal shelter I could ever imagine. It's clean and new. Several water features are installed to calm the dogs--water flows over the roofs of the dog's rooms for example. One part of the floor is warm while the other is cool so dogs can choose what is
comfortable for them. It is a bit out of the way, but well worth the trip for any dog lover (closed on Mondays).

A wonderful place to adopt a pet - we did! The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, and the facility was cheerful and clean. We actually benefited a lot from the home visit that was required for adopting our Springer, not having
owned a dog for a while. We learned about the best foods, the Zoom Groom, and what behaviors to expect from our soon to be new best friend.
Closed for animal viewing and adoptions on Wednesdays.
It may not be located in the DC area, but FetchDog sells a unique collection of stylish dog beds, collars, bowls, toys, grooming tools, jackets, and more for the discriminating
dog owner. They also feature high-quality foods and supplements. The website contains hundreds of articles on dog training and health care, dog photos and videos,
and a dog blog (say that 10 times fast) written by Glenn Close (actress/dog lover).
