Results the Gym
Results the Gym is one of D.C.'s true gems. As a self-admitted "gym rat" who has experimented with a wide range of gyms in New York, Boston, and D.C., I can confidently say that Results is both unique and fabulous! With only 2 locations in D.C., Results avoids the "chain" feel and creates a vibe that makes it more than just a gym -- it is a lifestyle. Beyond the solid offering that Results puts forth as a gym, there are many extras that make Results a fun community. Whether it is the friendly and helpful check-in person who greets you at the counter, the loft-like architecture and brightness of the space, the squeaky clean locker rooms, the talented and fun fitness instructors, or the "regulars" whom you will inevitably get to know, you'll have a great time.
Fitness-wise, Results the Gym offers something for almost
everyone. I am a big fan of classes, and I enjoy the
range of classes from the classic basics like muscle
conditioning, step, and spinning; to more funky varieties
like cardio combat and urban funk. On the more mellow,
balancing side, there is a solid set of pilates and yoga
classes with excellent, zen instructors. The classes
are scheduled at convenient times to suit both early
birds and end-of-day workouts. If your style is more
about sweating it out on your own to the sound of your
favorite iPod tunes, you can take advantage of a full
set of weight machines and meticulously updated cardio
equipment spread across 2 floors, with personalized audio
and cable TV on many machines. Finally, Results hosts
many low-key, but very good, personal trainers who are
happy to work with you as a sustained client, or just
once in a while to help boost your workout routine.
As a coda to this homage to Results, it would be a mistake
to fail to mention one of the best parts of belonging
to Results (Dupont location) -- i.e., the nice, smoothie
finish that one can procure at the Health Bar, a full-service
restaurant which adjoins the gym. Once in a while I will
treat myself to a cool, refreshing smoothie (Cool Rasperry
and Mango Monkey are really good, and they will also
mix-and-match your own favorite fruits) after an invigorating
workout, and ahhh, life is good! - Anoni Ms. Lee

If you just want a basic gym at a low price, Golds is a good option. They save money by eliminating extras like mulitple water fountains and charging extra for towels.
