Comet Ping Pong

Comet Ping Pong
(Pizza/American, Upper Northwest/Chevy Chase Circle)
5037 Connecticut Ave NW
Washington, DC 20008
202-364-0404
Gourmet pizza, molasses-braised chicken wings, ping pong tables, arm wrestling, local artists painting on the walls, local musicians performing, and US micro brews on tap. What's not to love? We enjoy the pizza, but wish they contained more than a light sprinkling of the delicious and varied toppings.

Luigi's Famous

(Italian, Midtown)
1132 19th Street
Washington, DC 20036
202-331-7574
Since 1943, Luigi's has been famous for serving its excellent pizza to Washington. They also offer pastas ranging from rich to the lighter side. The calamari cooked in tomato sauce is excellent. They offer banquet services for large parties. Sometimes only Luigi's will do.

Pizzeria Paradiso

(Pizza/Italian, Dupont Circle)
2029 P St NW
Washington, DC 20036
202-223-1245
Maybe the best wood-fired pizza in DC. We love the Atomica (tomato, salami, black olives, hot pepper flakes, mozzarella) and the fresh mozzarella "altre cose." The small dish of olives the bring when you sit down are a nice touch. Watch for the new location across P. Street in summer 2009.

Pizzeria Paradiso

(Pizza/Italian, Georgetown)
3282 M Street NW
Washington, DC 20007
202-337-1245
The Georgetown location of this DC favorite boasts a bar with 16 draft beers. The Happy Hour in the adjacent lounge from 5 to 7 pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays features half price draft beers.

Sette Osteria - Review

Sette Osteria
(Italian, Dupont Circle)
1666 Connecticut Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20009
202-483-3070
Sister restaurant of Café Milano, this modern-Italian style eatery just north of Dupont Circle has an open kitchen and offers seven varieties of pizza from wood-fired ovens and an array of traditional Italian and vegetarian dishes. Sette Osteria has a comfortable and well-stocked bar -- you can watch sports and CNN on one of the several high-mounted flat screens while you wait for your friends to arrive.

Valentino's NY Style Pizza - Review

(Pizza, Alexandria)
4813 Beauregard Street
Alexandria, VA 22312
703-354-8383
From the outside, Valentino's doesn't look like much, but inside it has some of the best pizza you can find in the NOVA area. Like most traditional Italian, New York style pizza, Valentino's slices are enormous. Besides traditional offerings of pepperoni, cheese, or "white" pizza, Valentino's also has Sicilian style (thick, square pizza), calzones, and unusual toppings such as Chicken alla Vodka or the "Meatatarian."
