Tapas and Mezze Restaurants in Washington DC
Fahrenheit - Review
3100 South Street NW
Washington, DC 20007
202-912-4110
Great for special occasions, Fahrenheit is an upscale restaurant featuring American regional cuisine in the Ritz Carlton Hotel. Prices are high, but the food and wait staff make this a great dining experience.
Heritage India
1337 Connecticut Avenue NW # 1
Washington, DC 20007
202-331-1114
Delicious traditional and modern Indian food. The "younger" and more trendy location, Heritage India at Dupont Circle offers several tapas or small plate dishes alongside its more traditional Indian menu. From 5-7pm, Monday through Friday, the tapas dishes are half off for Happy Hour.
Jaleo
(Spanish, Archieves/Navy Memorial Stop, Metro)480 7th Street NW
Washington, DC 20004
202-628-7949
Jaleo's downtown DC restaurant, along with their tapas menu, offers lunch which includes a variety of vegetables, salads, roasted lamb, grilled cheese, chicken, eggplant, Spanish cured meats, and sandwiches. We love the chorizo with mashed potatoes and never visit without ordering a pitcher of sangria.
Panache - Review
1725 DeSales Street NW
Washington, DC 20036
202-293-7760
Panache Restaurant has a great location in the Midtown District on a side street off Connecticut near the Mayflower Hotel. Cosy up with your group of freinds in the large plush oval booths to share tapas like blackened Norwegian salmon and shrimp with garlic. They have a lively happy hour with drink specials every day.
Zaytinya
(Greek/Turkish/Lebanese, Penn Quarter)701 9th Street NW
Washington, DC 20004
202-638-0800
Zaytinya has a great bar scene, which figures as you often need to wait quite a while for a table - this popular tapas (or mezze) spot now takes reservations on a limited basis. But the dishes of DC's celebrity chef Jose Andres make it worth the wait. Come for the food and lively scene - not for convivial conversation since that will be difficult given the noise.
