Bob Kinkead's Colvin Run Tavern

Experiencing Colvin Run and Kinkead's is like meeting 2 completely different brothers in a family: Kinkead's is the boisterous, casual brother, whereas Colvin Run is the more serious, distinguished one. You will likely come to love both members of Bob Kinkead's family, however, and appreciate each of them on different occasions. As a serious, distinguished brother would ensure, Colvin Run provided for a special, memorable experience when I was taken there for my birthday. In particular, the service was impeccable without being stuffy. The restaurant had reserved a nice cozy booth that was close (but not too close) to the glowing fire. When the waiter brought out the menus, I was tickled to see that they had customized the menu with my name and "happy birthday" emblazoned on the top. This was a fun touch to get things started!

We decided to go with the tasting menu, which meant we ended up lingering for hours and eventually closing down the restaurant. There was not one moment, however, when we felt like we should do anything but savor every bite and sip. For each course, the waiter gave us a short and informative description of each wine pairing, and the servers knew exactly which dish to put in front of him and which one to put in front of me. After a while, we teasingly started to wonder whether the waiter or servers would make an error in the presentation, but there was not misstep throughout the evening! Of course, the food was also delicious. For me, the fish course and duck breast were notable, as were both of the desserts. For my boyfriend, I think the foie gras and the dessert wine are the morsels that will draw him back for another visit.

Colvin Run Tavern definitely demands its price for the caliber of experience it delivers, but for an occasion to remember it is surely worth every penny. -S.S.Lee (Reviewed on 3/26/06)
