When you’re craving casual Italian food that’s more comfort food
than gourmet, Sette Osetria will
absolutely hit the spot. Located in Dupont Circle, this laid back
eatery has quaint rows of tables close together, yet there is more
than enough elbow room for tucking into that big bowl of pasta.
Or you can head outside to the patio for people watching under
the big umbrella covered tables. The entire rustic appeal of Sette
Osteria is completed with the wood fire oven and the Mediterranean
décor.
Start with plates of mozzarella salad, a sure crowd pleaser
or satisfying enough for two to split. All of the salads use
imported buffalo mozzarella and priced at $15. The tried and
true Caprese is always a hit but for something different the
Tricolore includes green beans and roasted bell peppers. The
Involtini is like a meal in itself with buffalo mozzarella wrapped
in prosciutto and cantaloupe. Lactose intolerant? The Leggera
Salad is light and refreshing made with spinach, mushrooms, pine
nuts and zesty lemon vinaigrette.
Move on next to a lovely antipasti course. These traditional
dishes include tapas-style Neapolitan delights like fresh grilled
calamari and panzaretti (tiny calzones).
Indulging in one of Sette’s signature pizzas is a must. With
a wood fire oven in the kitchen each one of the different kinds
of Neapolitan creations here comes out perfectly. The crust is
light and the toppings are heaven. Choose from the familiar staples
like the Margherita (tomato, basil and mozzarella) to the more
complex Pescatora, (tomatoes, clams, shrimp, mussels and calamari). The
sweetness of the Verdona lends itself to the oregano flavored
ricotta cheese and there are also several pizzas that include
sweet Italian sausage or spicy eggplant.
Heartier appetites will be happy to know that there are plenty
of second course options and a healthy dose of pasta and risotto
dishes available. Don’t forget to save room for panna cotta,
tiramisu or gelati for dessert. There is a super cheap happy
hour menu as well, Mon-Fri from 3:30-7pm which includes Prosecco
to Miller Lite for cheap and a few fun food items for $7 and
under.
