Hotels - Where to Stay in DC

Washington has different faces for different visitors. For business visitors, it is convenient to stay close to where the meetings take place (perhaps Downtown). For family trips, where to stay might depend on the main sightseeing activities: Monuments? Museums? The National Zoo? Here are some suggestions.

Most monuments and museums are in the Mall area. Once you get to the mall, they are all in walkable distance but you will need a good pair of walking shoes. It is lovely to visit some of the places when the weather cooperates. However, there are not many restaurants in the area. So it may work better if you stayed at Foggy Bottom, Dupont Circle, Farragut North, or Georgetown. With the exception of Georgetown, the other areas are close to the Metro.
